Mexico Business Trip 2024

Mexico Business Trip Opportunity for Qualifying Delaware Small Businesses

Join us on a business trip to Mexico to connect with potential customers and grow your business.

Mexico has proven to be the top market for Delaware exporters, with over $104.6 million in export sales from participating companies in our program. Participants project an additional $157.6 million to come in over the next 18 months. As a result of all this activity, Delaware companies have added four new jobs and retained 35!

Several factors contribute to this success. According to the ITA, “Mexico is a leading global logistics center, in large part based upon its 13 trade agreements with 50 countries.” The nation is accessible to US exporters and open for business, thanks to the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA). Mexico is the fourteenth largest economy in the world, and it continues to grow, especially in the sectors of advanced manufacturing, agribusiness, auto parts and services, aerospace, environmental technology, information technology, and more (source).

If your business is seeking to create new sales channels, connect with new customers, or expand internationally, consider Mexico!

Mexico Trade Brief

Making History in Mexico:
In a landmark election bringing the highest number of voters in the nation’s history, Claudia Sheinbaum became the first woman to be elected president of Mexico.

Will the election results bring any economic changes? Sheinbaum succeeds her mentor, current Presidente Andrés Manuel López Obrador, and her platform promises to continue the major infrastructure projects he initiated. Read more about this election here (Bloomberg, New York Times).

Trade Between Mexico and the US is Soaring:
For the first time in 20 years, the US bought more from Mexico than China (source)! This is due to several factors. Primarily, the auto industry has recovered from the pandemic (remember when they were short on chip parts and there were very few new cars in the lot?). The North American auto industry is on the rise, and Mexico is becoming a major auto exporter (source).

“Over the last 20 years, U.S. and Mexican supply chains have become increasingly integrated, and production sharing —with intermediate steps in the creation of a final good taking place on both sides of the border— is now commonplace.” – ITA

The Mexican economy is strong and growing, which can only be good for our Delaware exporters, who have products and services that are a good fit for this market.

Noteworthy Stats:
Total US goods exports to Mexico were $324.3 billion in 2022 (this is a 17% increase from 2021) (Source).

Top opportunity sectors include advanced manufacturing, agribusiness, auto parts and services, aerospace, environmental technology, and information technology. Read more from the ITA’s Country Commercial Guide.
