Submission Guidelines

These Submission Guidelines apply to all articles submitted for publication on the website of the Delaware Department of State (“DOS”). The DOS seeks to publish articles containing material relevant to its target audience: business persons, intermediaries, and others who form business entities, both in the United States and abroad.

Writing Style. Articles should be written in a clear, non-legalese manner directed to the DOS’s target audience. No jargon, please! Keep sentences and paragraphs short and in plain English. Articles should address the practical, real-world value of a feature of Delaware law, Delaware’s courts, or new developments in Delaware.

Content. Articles must be relevant to the DOS’s target audience, and should promote Delaware as a whole—not the practice of the author. The author’s name, place of employment, and title will be identified in the article, however. Articles must be dignified and not denigrate anyone.

Formatting and Length. Articles should be concisely written and preferably no more than 1-2 pages. If available, please include links to more voluminous content that may interest the reader. Articles should include a short descriptive title. Submit your article in Word format, with text in Times New Roman, 12 point font, with one-inch margins.

Timing of Publication. The DOS will determine when articles will be published. If the topic of the article is time-sensitive, the DOS will endeavor to publish the article promptly. If you believe your submission is time-sensitive, please include “TIME-SENSITIVE” in the subject line of your submission email.

DOS Discretion. Although the DOS does not intend to edit articles, it reserves the right to do so. Any articles edited by the DOS will only be published with the consent of the author. The DOS may also ask the author to edit the article.

The DOS reserves the right to refuse to publish articles that, in its sole determination, do not meet the Guidelines above or that the DOS otherwise deems unsuitable for publication. Any article accepted for publication will be published on the website of the DOS and will be sent to DOS contacts, including anyone who has signed up to receive content from the DOS website.

The DOS further reserves the right to change these Guidelines at any time and in its sole discretion.

Rights To Content Submitted. All articles are submitted under the terms of the Attribution-ShareAlike 3.0 Unported Creative Commons Public License (available at: creativecommons.org). Under this license, you permit anyone to copy, distribute, display and perform your article, royalty-free, on the condition that they credit your authorship each time they do so. You also permit others to distribute derivative works of your article, but only if they do so under the same Attribution-ShareAlike license that governs your original article.
