His work with clients has focused on strategy development projects that involve in-depth external research and analysis to generate market insights, identify best practices or devise successful competitive strategies in global markets. His client experience includes small and mid-size industrial firms, Fortune 500 companies and government/non-profit economic development organizations that serve manufacturing companies. His engagements have required an understanding of global markets throughout North and South America, Europe, and Asia.

Mike is one of the principal architects of the MEP National Network’s ExporTech program, an innovative, structured national export growth program that has been highly successful in assisting over 1,200 companies nationwide to expand in global markets. He has worked with hundreds of manufacturers and collaborated with export assistance organizations across dozens of states. Mike also supports manufacturers through in-depth individual consulting projects with global scope. Typical engagements involve international growth strategy and research/evaluation of markets and competitors.

Mike also has led a series of major research projects for the US Department of Commerce (NIST Manufacturing Extension Partnership and the International Trade Administration) covering topics related to exporting, including: successful international growth strategies; assessments of exporter service needs; analysis of what distinguishes successful exporters; and strategy development for export programs related to tradeshows, trade missions and strategic partnerships. He also authored a widely cited report on federal and state export promotion strategies.

Mike is a member of the Maine District Export Council, won the 2019 Maine International Trade Center President’s Award, and is based in Portland, Maine.
